Personality:
+ France is a palate of traits and personae. Let's begin what he's on the outside, that is, his affective personality. Affectionate, loyal, fun-loving, flamboyant, egotistical, flighty, and a tease, France may come off to others as a rather classic, comedic form of a flamboyant gentleman.... that's not above some tactful rudeness.

+ He does not hesitate to make obscene or inappropriate comments or gestures; in fact in canon he is often shown jumping on the opportunity to do so. He's a shameless flirt, in other words, but while he does play around it's mostly part of his eccentric outward personality.

+ France does enjoy his cup of coffee with some philosophy. He's a humanist at heart, and believes in the good and beauty of all things. He's the man to go to if you wish to answer the big questions in life, but don't expect him to answer them right away without some teasing first. Perhaps it's this part of him that makes him appear overly affectionate to others. He's not afraid or shy to do so, even with a culture barriers. Life is good, people are good, and appreciation should be shown.

+ He is a lover of all things beautiful and even acknowledges that he himself is the "dandiest of dandies". Although the lines of France having love for just about anything, he is also very tolerant. It does not matter if you're male, female, a cat, or a boat-- if it has appeal or a certain unique, endearing oddness to it, France will respect it and treat it as a masterpiece.

+ He appreciates creativity in all of its forms. It goes without saying that this makes him have both expensive tastes, but he is not above trying anything new or trendy.

+ Even if the person or object itself doesn't see their own beauty or others may scoff at a particular strange artwork, France will see the aesthetic in practically everything... unless you're England or remind him of England. If so, don't expect any politeness.

+ That being said, France is confident in his charisma, looks, and talents, often boasts of them, and as such he can be imposing and prideful. France can take both military losses well and insults to his pride with a wave of his hand (or hair toss); his ego is just that big. Despite this-- or rather because of it-- he attempts to carry himself with the air of a laid-back nobleman, although that might not shine through all the time.

+ He has a very, very high sense of self-preservation. It's probably why he's so excellent at retreating.

+ France loves sharing. He likes to share his wine and food, so long as you know it's the best. He likes to share his opinions. He likes to share his affection... and touches. (Bad touch? What's that?) He's got a big heart and thinks himself overly generous when he shares. In fact, everyone should have a little bit of France. It would make the the world a much more beautiful place.

+ There is one catch to his sharing: in of it itself he may be rather opportunistic. He may only share what others absolutely need to know-- this includes both physical, material, and philosophical help, and then be on his way.

+ It is this arrogant and stubborn aspect of him that others who dislike him may tend to remember. He will run arguments into the ground and disagree with things only for the sake of disagreeing. And then he'll argue that the argument itself (no matter how trivial) is due to being a great thinker.

+ Over all, France has a good head on his shoulders, knows his general rights from his wrongs, still does the wrongs for reasons of pleasure and leisure, but always makes amends in the end. If you're his friend, he's got your back and will stay loyal until the end (and will probably flirt with you). He will be there for you when you need him and for when you don't. After all, he's the type to drop in unexpected and uninvited at times. Even if you're not his friend, he will treat you with some amount of respect.
